“aaccrroobbaatt” is an art project began in the wake of Parasophia: Kyoto International Festival of Contemporary Culture being held in 2015. It’s something like the near future festival was pushing us from behind and without any request from someone, people who are interested in the festival just get together and try to seek and think then make prototypes of future large-scale international contemporary art exhibitions. That’s different from painting a future as someone would like it to be but rather a kind of platform in order to create a first step to resist a black future. And further, it’s to see the end of mankind and a catastrophic future that’s often depicted on movies or novels as real possibilities. Or, it’s not to laugh scornfully the power of prayer in accomplishment. So this project, through art itself, will be an actual practice that face up seriously to the predictive something and try to prepare against the future that’s hard to imagine by way of experiment.
However, the bus from “future” called “aaccrroobbaatt” has just left for “present”. Maybe you will see on the way that every decision in the future changes into suspense. It’s something like things go well not through “determination” but through “pendency”. Actually it’s a weird idea but I mean to say we can rethink about the reality by leaving, for example, a structure seems to be functional or a kind of common knowledge in “pendency”. It’s because of to say hello to the future needs to take tentatively a step from the present moment. Of course, you could take even a misstep. At such times, maybe you need something like a pluck to try taking a step again or to try taking a misstep again.
aaccrroobbaatt that’s carried out in many different ways such as, Seminars, Meetings, Performances, Exhibitions and so on will be starting in September 2013 at Kyoto. Then eventually, we would like to study what we gain and lost throughout the whole practice and each practice.
